Feds: Border Patrol Acted in Self-Defense in Portland Shooting, Witness Says

On the afternoon of the shooting, a couple was approached by federal agents in the parking lot of a medical office located at 10201 S.E. Main St. Witnesses reported hearing five gunshots during the altercation.

• A witness named Steve heard the shots after agents confronted a Toyota truck.
• The driver appeared fearful and began to rear back into another car before speeding off.
• Steve mentioned seeing one vehicle severely damaged and unable to drive.

Background of the Incident

According to Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin, agents attempted to stop the truck due to the belief that the driver was associated with the Tren de Aragua gang. The passenger was also linked to this gang.

McLaughlin stated that when agents identified themselves, the driver allegedly acted aggressively, attempting to “run over” law enforcement. As a result, one agent fired a shot in self-defense, fearing for their life.

Following the incident, the couple fled approximately 40 blocks before Portland police located them. The police received the first report regarding the shooting at 2:18 p.m., and the wounded individuals were transported to separate hospitals. Their conditions remain unknown.
