Ameren has launched a campaign to remind customers in Missouri and Illinois about energy bill assistance programs available in 2026. The company collaborates with several organizations to provide support to qualifying households facing challenges in paying their energy bills.

Financial Assistance Programs Offered by Ameren

Ameren’s initiatives include partnerships with the United Way of Greater St. Louis and various Community Action Agencies. These partnerships facilitate access to financial aid, notably through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

Encouragement to Apply Early

Joe Solari, Vice President of Customer Experience at Ameren, emphasized the importance of early applications. He stated, “Don’t wait to ask for help.” He cautioned that delays could turn minor challenges into significant burdens, especially as colder months approach.

Details of the Dollar More Program in Missouri

The Dollar More program, funded by voluntary donations, provides crucial assistance to Missouri customers. In December, Ameren allocated an additional $2 million specifically for this program.

  • Eligible households can receive up to $600 per calendar year.
  • Income eligibility has been raised to 300% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).

Michelle D. Tucker, president of the United Way of Greater St. Louis, highlighted the success of this program in supporting those in need.

Warm Neighbors Cool Friends in Illinois

In Illinois, Ameren administers the Warm Neighbors Cool Friends program in collaboration with the Energy Assistance Foundation. This program is also funded through voluntary donations, making it essential for many local families.

  • Participants can receive up to $500 in bill payment assistance.
  • Qualifications include incomes between 200% and 300% of the FPL or at 80% of the county’s Area Median Income (AMI).

Susan Sams, executive director of the Energy Assistance Foundation, stated that the program serves as a vital resource for families struggling to maintain a comfortable living environment.

Significant Support in 2025

Throughout 2025, Ameren, in collaboration with Community Action Agencies, provided over $140 million in energy assistance and LIHEAP support. This total includes a specific grant of $250,000 awarded to Heat Up St. Louis, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping vulnerable communities.

Ben Turec, board president of Heat Up St. Louis, praised the ongoing partnership with Ameren, encouraging those facing difficulties to seek assistance promptly.
