Rodney Rodriguez, a retired NYPD detective, is set to appear on the revival of the iconic stunt reality series, “Fear Factor: House of Fear.” This new iteration premieres on Sunday at 8 p.m. on Fox/5. Known for his unique artistry under the name “PANIC,” Rodriguez’s journey from city streets to the screen is quite remarkable.

Rodney Rodriguez: From NYPD to Fear Factor

With 25 years of service in the NYPD, Rodriguez brings a wealth of experience to the competition. He held various roles, including undercover narcotics officer and detective. His career also included working in the Firearms Analysis Section for eight years.

Entering the World of “Fear Factor”

Rodriguez is one of 14 contestants living together in an isolated mansion. They will tackle various extreme challenges, such as:

  • Being encased in concrete from foot to chest.
  • Standing in a Plexiglas box with various creatures raining down.
  • Being compressed in a vacuum pack with only an air hose and panic button.

Each week, contestants will face eliminations, with the victor claiming a prize of $200,000. The show is hosted by stunt performer Johnny Knoxville, co-creator of the “Jackass” franchise.

His Journey as an Artist

Outside law enforcement, Rodriguez has a passion for art. He was introduced to drawing by a cousin who was a comic book enthusiast. Active in graffiti art from 1980 to 1985, he later graduated from the New York City College of Technology in 1986, specializing in art and advertising.

Rodriguez views “Fear Factor” as an opportunity to test his courage. He has been a fan of the original series, which aired from 2001 to 2006, and its various revivals. After retiring from the NYPD nine years ago, he felt it was time to challenge himself once again.

Rodriguez resides in Freeport and enjoys bowling in a league in nearby Rockville Centre. He expresses a fondness for “Survivor,” stating it as his favorite show. Despite his participation in “Fear Factor,” he hopes to one day compete on “Survivor.” This adventure indicates his desire to stay engaged and face new challenges.
