Key Changes for the 2026 Emmys
Among the major adjustments, the category of Outstanding Television Movie has been rebranded as Outstanding Movie. This change aims to better encompass the shift toward feature-length content on both broadcast and streaming platforms.
AI Inquiry Statement
A new provision has been added to the Academy’s Rules & Procedures addressing AI usage. The Television Academy reserves the right to inquire about AI’s role in submissions. “The core of our recognition remains centered on human storytelling, regardless of the tools used to bring it to life,” the statement reads.

- Sound Mixing Category Split: The category Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Nonfiction or Reality Program will now be divided into two distinct categories, enhancing clarity and recognition.
- Music Composition Updates: The category for Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary/Nonfiction or Reality Program will now include reality programs with original dramatic scores. Eligibility for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music has also been expanded.
