Manitobans Access New Digital Health Cards

Manitobans can now access new digital health cards through a mobile application. This initiative allows residents to present their health information digitally, enhancing convenience in medical emergencies.

Launch of Digital Health Cards

On a recent Monday, the Manitoba government announced the availability of digital health cards for registered residents. This move aligns with the province’s efforts to modernize health services following the introduction of plastic health cards last year.

Benefits of Digital Access

Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara emphasized the importance of having a digital card, especially during emergencies like recent wildfires. “People often had to leave their homes quickly, without the chance to gather all their documents,” Asagwara noted. Having a health card on one’s phone simplifies access to care during such crises.

Features of the MB Wallet App

  • The digital health card will be stored in the MB Wallet app.
  • Users can conveniently schedule clinic appointments via the MediNav online booking system.
  • Parents can store their children’s health cards in the same app.

The provincial government assures that the app will prioritize the security of health information. Premier Wab Kinew mentioned plans to support additional features in the future, such as storing hunting and fishing licenses.

Cost and Availability

The development of the digital health card incurred a cost of $1.9 million. Starting Monday afternoon, residents can request their electronic cards online. To access the digital card, users must have a My Manitoba Health Card account and the MB Wallet app on their devices.

Those seeking a new health card can opt for either the digital version, the traditional plastic card, or both. Kinew reiterated that obtaining a digital health card is completely optional, aimed at making life easier for Manitobans.
