Quebec Approves Class Action Against Ticketmaster; Many May Receive Compensation
Residents of Quebec who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster may be entitled to compensation due to a recently approved class action lawsuit. This legal action targets the excessive fees imposed by Ticketmaster for tickets bought since July 26, 2021.
Details of the Class Action Against Ticketmaster
The lawsuit was initiated by Felipe Morales, a Montreal resident. In 2022, he purchased four tickets to see Bruce Springsteen in New Jersey at a cost of $4,000. However, the total bill included an additional $599 in fees, raising concerns about the legitimacy of Ticketmaster’s pricing structure.
Judicial Findings
A Quebec Superior Court judge described the fees as “excessive, unreasonable, abusive and disproportionate.” The court documents indicate that Ticketmaster’s fees can sometimes comprise up to 75% of the ticket’s base price. This raises questions about the fairness of these charges relative to the services provided.
Who Is Affected by the Lawsuit?
- Any individual in Quebec who purchased tickets from Ticketmaster since July 26, 2021.
- Purchases made at box offices, via Ticketmaster’s website, or through the mobile app are included.
- Covers various events such as concerts, sporting events, theatrical performances, and festivals.
Objectives of the Lawsuit
The plaintiffs are seeking reimbursement for the portion of fees that exceed the actual costs incurred by Ticketmaster for the services. On January 5, 2026, Judge Eleni Yiannakis approved the class action, stating that it has merit to proceed.
How to Participate in the Class Action
If you believe you qualify for the class action, you can register through the law firm Paquette Gadler. It is important to provide details of your ticket purchases, including dates, events, locations, ticket prices, and the fees charged.
This lawsuit is still in its early stages. While there are no guarantees regarding the total compensation, the court’s approval provides a pathway for affected consumers to seek justice.
