‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ TV Adaptation Announced
Sky has officially announced a new adaptation of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” transforming Stieg Larsson’s iconic novel into an eight-part television series. This upcoming show is being developed by Left Bank Pictures, the production company known for acclaimed works like “The Crown” and the “Dept Q” series.
The Vision for the New Series
The adaptation aims to deliver a “bold and contemporary reimagining” of the original story. It will stay true to the characters and investigative essence of Larsson’s Millennium series. The narrative will also reflect modern themes that resonate with today’s audience.
Background of the Millennium Series
The Millennium novels, including “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” have achieved remarkable success, selling over 100 million copies globally. The story was notably adapted into a feature film in 2011, directed by David Fincher and featuring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. This neo-noir mystery followed journalist Mikael Blomkvist and hacker Lisbeth Salander as they tackled a decades-old cold case.
The franchise continued with the release of “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” in 2018, under the direction of Fede Álvarez.
Production Details
While casting news for the television adaptation has yet to be released, filming is set to begin in Lithuania in the upcoming spring. Steve Lightfoot and Angela LaManna are attached as writers and executive producers.
