Pitlochry Festival Theatre Celebrates 75th Anniversary Milestone

Pitlochry Festival Theatre is gearing up to celebrate its 75th anniversary with a series of special events aimed at fundraising and honoring its rich history. The festivities will kick off on February 28, with a notable appearance from Grammy-nominated singer Lulu. She will engage in a discussion with the theatre’s Artistic Director, Alan Cumming, regarding her 60-year career in music and acting. Following this conversation, Lulu will sign copies of her new autobiography, “If Only You Knew.”

The next day, novelist and fashion writer Justine Picardie will converse with broadcaster Kirsty Wark about Picardie’s new release, “Fashioning the Crown.” This book offers a unique perspective on British history over the past 50 years, particularly through the lens of royal fashion. It draws from original research and personal interactions with the Royal Family, illustrating how clothing has influenced perceptions and social dynamics during significant historical events.

Special Exhibition

In addition to these events, Pitlochry Festival Theatre will feature a special exhibition showcasing 25 years of costumes from past productions. This display will include clothing, accessories, and sketches, presenting a comprehensive look at the theatre’s in-house wardrobe. It’s a tribute to the craftsmanship that has defined the theatre’s visual storytelling.

Fundraising Goals

The theatre’s 75th Anniversary appeal strives to raise £500,000 by the end of 2026. These funds will support three main objectives:

  • Ensuring the production of exceptional live theatre for the next 75 years.
  • Encouraging bold new writing and nurturing emerging creative talents.
  • Enhancing outreach programs aimed at engaging schools and communities.

The theatre aims to double its number of Patrons and Members as part of this initiative, reinforcing its commitment to the performing arts in Scotland.

As it marks this historic milestone, Pitlochry Festival Theatre continues to create a vibrant cultural hub, promising more exciting events as the year progresses. Stay tuned for further announcements in its ongoing celebration of performing arts.
