Monks’ 2,300-Mile Peace Journey Reaches Charlotte: Viewing Details Inside

Buddhist monks are approaching Charlotte as part of their remarkable 120-day, 2,300-mile peace journey. Their trek, known as the “Walk for Peace,” aims to foster awareness of peace, compassion, and loving-kindness across the United States.

Upcoming Visit to Charlotte

The monks are set to arrive in the Charlotte area on Wednesday afternoon, January 14. They will be at the Marion Diehl Recreation Center from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Tyvola Road region of south Charlotte. This event will provide a unique opportunity for the public to meet the monks and engage with their message.

About the Journey

Currently, the monks have completed over 80 consecutive days of walking. They started their journey in Fort Worth, Texas, and are headed to Washington, D.C. Along with them is Aloka, their devoted dog, who accompanies them on this path.

Message of Peace

This symbolic walk is more than just a long trek; it embodies the monks’ commitment to spreading their message of mindfulness and compassion. They emphasize that their journey is not a protest but a positive affirmation of peace.

Monks’ Perspective

The Vulnerable Bhikkhu Pannakara expressed the significance of their journey, stating, “Of course it hurts, it’s painful, but we hold within us the energy of mindfulness.” This inner strength has been vital for their perseverance as they continue this monumental undertaking.
