Teyana Taylor Clarifies Leonardo DiCaprio’s Viral Golden Globes Incident

Teyana Taylor recently appeared on The Tonight Show, sharing her experiences following her significant Golden Globe win for One Battle After Another. During her interview with Jimmy Fallon, she discussed a viral moment involving her co-star Leonardo DiCaprio from the awards night.

Teyana Taylor on Leonardo DiCaprio’s Viral Golden Globes Moment

Fallon showcased a clip of DiCaprio, who was animatedly engaging in conversation about K-Pop Demon Hunters. This clip gained widespread attention, leading many, including Taylor, to believe he was directing his comments toward her.

“He is so funny,” noted Fallon as they examined the clip. He asked Taylor if she could identify whom DiCaprio was conversing with. “Okay, look, yesterday I thought I broke the Da Vinci Code,” Taylor responded. “People were saying he was talking to Teyana. I was really excited because K-Pop Demon Hunters won and my kids love the song ‘Golden.’” She initially assumed that DiCaprio had been addressing her, but later found out he had two separate conversations regarding K-Pop Demon Hunters that night.

Clarifying the Misunderstanding

After further examination of the video, Taylor realized the misunderstanding stemmed from various lip-reading interpretations. “I had to call Leo,” she recalled. “I knew what K-Pop was because Chase taught me. So I thought, ‘Were you really talking to me? Because I told people you were!’” Ultimately, she concluded that DiCaprio doesn’t even remember the details of his conversations that evening.

Memorable Acceptance Speech

Taylor also reflected on her acceptance speech, which was highlighted as one of the event’s standout moments. Despite meticulously planning her speech, nervousness prompted her to remove an entire paragraph to ensure she wouldn’t run out of time. “I was trying to beat the embarrassment,” she explained. “The thought of the music playing and me melting on stage was daunting.”

Musical Collaboration and Latest Album

During her appearance, Taylor performed her song “Hard Part” alongside Lucky Daye. This track is featured on her Grammy-nominated album Escape Room, which was released in August. This album is notable as her fourth studio project and her first since her temporary retirement from music in 2020.

Critics from major outlets like Rolling Stone hailed the album as “Taylor’s most vulnerable work yet,” noting its exploration of grief, trauma, acceptance, and new beginnings.
