Heusner’s dedication to conservation and sustainable tourism placed Belize on the global map for anglers and nature enthusiasts alike. His contributions were recognized during his tenure with the Belize Audubon Society and various tourism associations. In 2018, he received the esteemed title of Oceana Ocean Hero.

The Minister of Tourism, Anthony Mahler, along with the Belize Tourism Board, expressed their heartfelt condolences to Heusner’s family. They praised his legacy, which has profoundly impacted the tourism industry and inspired future generations.

Dr. Francis Gary Longsworth: A Commitment to Healthcare

Belize’s medical community is also mourning the passing of Dr. Francis Gary Longsworth, who served as the CEO of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH). Longsworth died over the weekend following a brief illness.

He began his career as a biology lecturer before furthering his medical education at the University of the West Indies (UWI). Upon returning to Belize, he took charge of KHMH, where he led significant advancements, including the establishment of a Neonatal-Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
