James Cook was recognized as a second-team All-Pro at the running back position. In contrast, Ray Davis received first-team honors as a kick returner. Their performances have been pivotal for the Bills this season.

James Cook’s Stellar Season

Cook led the NFL with an impressive total of 1,621 rushing yards. This achievement marked his first career rushing title, making him the first Bills player to earn this honor since O.J. Simpson in 1976.

Additionally, Cook excelled in several other statistics:

  • First in the league for yards before contact with 519.
  • Scored 12 rushing touchdowns, ranking fifth in the NFL.
  • Accumulated 291 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions.
  • Overall, he totaled 1,912 yards and 14 touchdowns for the season.

Bijan Robinson of the Atlanta Falcons led the league in total yards, finishing with 2,298 yards.

Ray Davis’s Impact on Special Teams

Ray Davis made his mark by leading the NFL in kick return average. He achieved an average of 30.4 yards per return among players with at least 20 attempts. Davis also tied for the league lead with one kick return touchdown.

Remarkably, Davis didn’t start returning kicks until Week 9 of the season. Bills head coach Sean McDermott praised Davis, stating, “He’s embraced a role that maybe wasn’t his initial goal, but he saw an opportunity and took advantage of it.”

Looking Ahead: Playoff Potential

Special teams and a solid running game are essential components in playoff football. Currently, the Bills have the league’s top rushing attack, averaging 159.6 yards per game. They also feature the most productive return specialist in Davis.

The upcoming wild-card matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars will be a critical test for both Cook and Davis. Their ability to perform under pressure could be vital for the team’s playoff aspirations.
