Oilers Celebrate Nugent-Hopkins’ Milestone 1,000th NHL Game

The Edmonton Oilers will celebrate Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ impressive milestone of 1,000 NHL games with a special pre-game ceremony. This event is scheduled for Sunday, January 18, as the Oilers take on the St. Louis Blues at Rogers Place.

Nugent-Hopkins’ 1,000th NHL Game

Nugent-Hopkins, who is 32 years old, will mark his 1,000th game in his 15th NHL season. He will be the first player in Oilers history to accomplish this feat entirely with the franchise. Furthermore, he will join the ranks of the 417 players in NHL history to reach this milestone.

A Look Back at His Career

The Oilers will conduct an on-ice ceremony, with the attendance of teammates, family, and VIP guests. Nugent-Hopkins was selected first overall by the Oilers in the 2011 NHL Draft from the WHL’s Red Deer Rebels. Up to this point, he has scored 282 goals and provided 503 assists, totaling 785 points in his career.

Notable Achievements

  • First NHL goal in his debut game on October 9, 2011, against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
  • Recorded 52 points (18 goals, 34 assists) in his rookie season, finishing second for the Calder Memorial Trophy.
  • Achieved his first 100-point season in the 2022-23 season, a rare feat accomplished by only a handful of players after their twelfth season.
  • Became the first Oilers player to reach nine points in the first four games of a Western Conference Final since Wayne Gretzky in 1988.

Community Involvement

Off the ice, Nugent-Hopkins is committed to humanitarian efforts. He received the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025 for his advocacy in Cystic Fibrosis awareness and treatment, a cause he supports alongside his wife, Breanne. He was also nominated for the NHL’s King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2018 for his philanthropic contributions.
