Alert: Check for Measles Symptoms if You Visited This Gilbert Location

The Maricopa County Department of Public Health issued a warning regarding potential measles exposure in Gilbert. Residents are urged to be vigilant, especially those who have visited specific locations during designated times.

Potential Measles Exposure in Gilbert

Individuals who were present at the Hale Theatre on January 5, 6, or 7 from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., or on January 8 and 9 from 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., should monitor for measles symptoms until the end of the current month. The warning comes after an individual who is not a Maricopa County resident was linked to the potential exposure.

Symptoms of Measles

Measles symptoms can appear between seven to 12 days after exposure, though they may take up to 21 days. Key symptoms to watch for include:

  • High fever
  • Cough
  • Red, raised, blotchy rash that typically starts at the hairline and moves down the body

If symptoms develop, individuals are advised to seek medical care and undergo testing. It is recommended to contact healthcare providers prior to visiting, to inform them of symptoms and possible exposure.

Local Measles Cases

Maricopa County has recently reported a separate confirmed case of measles involving a resident. Since June, Arizona has recorded more than 200 measles cases. Notably, no cases had been confirmed in Maricopa County until this latest warning.

Unvaccinated individuals are particularly at risk of contracting measles. The community is encouraged to ensure vaccinations are up-to-date to prevent further spread.
