Fan Passes Away in Stands During Laval Rocket Match

During a recent match between the Laval Rocket and the Manitoba Moose at Place Bell, a fan tragically passed away in the stands. Michel Pelletier, a 75-year-old resident of Laval, suffered a cardiac arrest just minutes before the game concluded. His family confirmed the news and shared their grief over his sudden passing.

Details of the Incident

Pertinently, Michel Pelletier was a dedicated fan of the Laval Rocket, having held a membership with the club for seven years. His wife, Micheline Fournier, recounted how he relocated to Laval a few years ago to be closer to his favorite team. On the day of the match, he sat just behind the Rocket’s goalie, Jacob Fowler.

With only one minute and 12 seconds left in the game, Fowler noticed something was amiss in the crowd and requested that the match be stopped. Witnesses initially thought Pelletier was simply asleep, but it became evident that he was unresponsive.

Emergency Response

  • Immediate first aid was administered on the scene.
  • Further attempts were made in the ambulance and at the hospital.

Unfortunately, despite these efforts, Pelletier was pronounced dead at the hospital, as confirmed by Valérie Guertin, a spokesperson for Urgences-santé.

Community Support

In a heartfelt message on Facebook, Pelletier’s daughter, Sophie, expressed her sorrow, stating, “My father passed away peacefully while watching his favorite team.” His brother, Yves Brenda Pelletier, thanked the medical team for their efforts and acknowledged the joy the Laval Rocket brought to his brother over the years.

In response to this tragic event, the Laval Rocket organization publicly extended their condolences. The team expressed how much they valued Michel Pelletier as a loyal supporter and emphasized their connection with his family during this difficult time.
