Packers to Interview Eagles’ Christian Parker for Defensive Coordinator Role
The Green Bay Packers are taking steps to fill their defensive coordinator position. They plan to interview Christian Parker, the defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. This move follows the departure of former coordinator Joe Barry.
Interview Schedule for Christian Parker
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Parker will first meet with the Dallas Cowboys for their defensive coordinator position. Afterward, he will head directly to Green Bay for his interview.
Christian Parker’s Coaching Background
Parker began his NFL journey in 2019 as a quality control coach under head coach Mike Pettine in Green Bay. He spent two seasons in that role before taking charge as the defensive backs coach for the Denver Broncos from 2021 to 2023. During his tenure, the Broncos defense achieved an impressive 88.6 passer rating, ranking 12th in the league.
While coaching in Denver, Parker worked under three different head coaches: Vic Fangio, Nathaniel Hackett, and Sean Payton. In 2024, Parker returned to the NFL under Fangio, who is now the Eagles’ defensive coordinator. Remarkably, he helped lead the Eagles to victory over the Packers in the playoffs on their way to the Super Bowl.
Parker’s Performance with the Eagles
- In two seasons with the Eagles, Parker’s defensive unit achieved a remarkable 75.4 passer rating.
- This statistic ranks as the second-best in the NFL, only behind the Los Angeles Chargers.
Current Interviews for Defensive Coordinator Role
This interview marks the first known meeting scheduled by the Packers for their vacant defensive coordinator role. Although the Cowboys have requested to interview Parker, other teams like the New York Giants, New York Jets, and Washington Commanders have not made interview requests yet.
Several candidates are also in the running for the Packers’ defensive coordinator position, including:
- Aden Durde (currently with the Seattle Seahawks)
- Zach Orr (currently with the Baltimore Ravens)
- Brandon Staley (currently with the New Orleans Saints)
- Dennard Wilson (currently with the Tennessee Titans)
As the offseason progresses, the Packers look forward to finalizing their new defensive coordinator. Christian Parker’s upcoming interviews could significantly influence their decision-making process.
