Timothy Busfield Removed from “You Deserve Each Other” after Allegations
Timothy Busfield has been removed from the cast of Amazon MGM’s upcoming romantic comedy, You Deserve Each Other, amidst serious allegations of child sexual abuse. The film, which stars Meghann Fahy and Penn Badgley, is based on Sarah Hogle’s 2020 bestselling novel.
Background on the Film
You Deserve Each Other centers on an engaged couple who, having fallen out of love, attempt to sabotage their wedding. However, their efforts unexpectedly lead them to rediscover their feelings for each other. Busfield was cast as Bernie, the father of Fahy’s character, Naomi. The release date for the film has not yet been announced.
Allegations Against Timothy Busfield
On January 9, a warrant for Busfield’s arrest was issued in connection to allegations of child abuse. These incidents reportedly took place on the set of the Fox series The Cleaning Lady, where he worked as a director and actor. Following the issuance of the warrant, Busfield surrendered to the police in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He faces two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and child abuse relating to two male minors.
Additional Accusations
- Busfield was accused of groping a teenage girl during an audition at the B Street Theatre in Sacramento, California.
- There were past allegations involving a 17-year-old extra from the 1994 film Little Big League, which he directed; this case was settled privately.
- In 2012, another woman claimed he groped her during a date, but no charges were filed at that time.
Consequences of Allegations
In light of these allegations, Busfield’s talent agency, Innovative Artists, has ended their association with him. Additionally, an episode of Law & Order: SVU, featuring Busfield, has been removed from airing schedules.
