Freely’s Growth and Market Impact

Jonathan Thompson, CEO of Everyone TV, expressed enthusiasm about the milestone. He stated, “Surpassing one million weekly users is an exciting milestone for Freely” and highlighted the service’s popularity for streaming live British TV and on-demand shows.

While Freely still trails behind established platforms like Sky and Freeview, the service’s focus on free streaming and ease of access may allow it to catch up quickly. Users are increasingly shifting toward streaming services as they move away from costly subscriptions.

Key Features and Accessibility

Freely distinguishes itself by operating solely over a broadband connection, unlike traditional platforms that rely on aerials. This feature simplifies the setup process for users. Key functionalities of Freely include:

  • Mini guide and backward guide for rewinding through schedules

Initially available on a limited number of TV models, Freely has expanded its compatibility to include brands like Hisense, Panasonic, Bush, and Sharp. Additionally, the introduction of a streaming device called Pleio allows viewers to access Freely on almost any television. More set-top boxes are anticipated to launch soon, potentially expanding Freely’s market share further.
