Antalya Health Director Özkan Joins AA ‘Photo of the Year’ Voting
Antalya’s Health Director, Prof. Dr. Behzat Özkan, actively participated in the Anadolu Agency’s (AA) “Photo of the Year” voting. This initiative highlights significant events captured in photographs throughout 2025.
Özkan’s Voting in Key Categories
Özkan examined a total of 112 photographs spanning six categories, sponsored by Lifebox, AJet, and ROKETSAN. The categories included:
- News
- Natural Life and Environment
- Sports
- Daily Life
- Gaza: Hunger (special category)
- Portrait (special category)

In the News category, Özkan voted for Mustafa Hatipoğlu’s photo titled “Conqueror of the Skies.” For the Sports category, he favored Evrim Aydın’s “Aduken!” Özkan also chose Özkan Bilgin’s “Defying the Moon” in the Natural Life and Environment category, and Sidar Can Eren’s “Milk Lamb” in the Daily Life category.
In the special category “Gaza: Hunger,” he selected Saeed M. M. T. Jaras’s photograph depicting the desperate situation of thousands of Palestinians seeking aid. For the Portrait category, Özkan voted for Cem Özdel’s “Chance Encounter.”
Addressing Humanitarian Issues
Özkan described the situation in Gaza as “humanity’s bleeding wound.” He expressed satisfaction with the recognition of this genocide through the special category of “Gaza: Hunger.” He emphasized the importance of raising awareness through such initiatives.
Significance of the Photography Competition
Özkan noted the profound impact of the photographs, stating, “I was deeply moved. All the images were significant. I chose a photo showcasing mass migration, including children and mothers. There were many wonderful shots in the other categories as well.”
This voting event has been held by AA annually since 2012. The competition features four main categories, alongside two special categories, “Gaza: Hunger” and “Portrait.” Voting continues until 5 PM on February 15, with participants able to vote for as many images as they wish.
