Jesse Minter has officially withdrawn from consideration for the Cleveland Browns’ head coach position. This decision was finalized on Wednesday night. Sources revealed that Minter believes he has better opportunities with other teams actively seeking a head coach.

Current Situation of the Browns’ Coaching Search

The Browns’ search for a new head coach continues after the withdrawal of Minter. This move follows the recent decision by former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel to also withdraw his name from the consideration list. McDaniel is set to become the Chargers’ offensive coordinator, prompting him to cancel his planned interview with the Browns.

Finalists for the Head Coach Position

With Minter and McDaniel out, the Browns are down to four candidates:

Jim Schwartz – Defensive Coordinator of the Browns
Todd Monken – Offensive Coordinator of the Ravens
Grant Udinski – Offensive Coordinator of the Jaguars
Nate Scheelhaase – Pass Game Coordinator of the Rams

The Browns are also required to interview one more diverse candidate to fulfill the Rooney Rule. Currently, Grant Udinski is scheduled for an interview on Friday, while Nate Scheelhaase’s interview will take place after the NFC Championship Game against the Seahawks.

Jim Schwartz is notable as he is the only candidate with previous head coaching experience. From 2009 to 2013, he led the Detroit Lions, recording a regular season record of 29-51. Schwartz has since upgraded his portfolio, having won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018 and transforming the Browns’ defense into one of the league’s top units.

Todd Monken, who served as the Browns’ offensive coordinator in 2019, brings 11 years of NFL coaching experience. His coaching career spans several decades, making him a seasoned candidate.
