Falcons Eye Eagles Executive for General Manager Role
The Atlanta Falcons are actively seeking candidates for their general manager position. Recently, the Falcons requested permission to interview Joe Douglas, the senior personnel director and advisor to the general manager for the Philadelphia Eagles. This development was reported by NFL insider Jonathan Jones.
Joe Douglas: A Candidate with a Complicated History
Douglas has an interesting background. He re-joined the Eagles in May 2025 after a challenging stint as the New York Jets’ general manager, where he posted a record of 32 wins and 68 losses over five and a half seasons. Prior to his time with the Jets, Douglas served as the Eagles’ vice president of player personnel from 2016 to 2019, collaborating closely with Howie Roseman.
Other Candidates in the Mix
Alongside Douglas, the Falcons are considering several former Eagles staff members for the GM role:
- Andy Weidl: The former Eagles vice president of player personnel took over Douglas’s position and has interviewed for the Falcons’ GM opening. He is currently the assistant general manager for the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2022.
- Ian Cunningham: Another former Eagles executive, Cunningham has served as the assistant general manager for the Chicago Bears since 2022 and is also in the running for the role with the Falcons.
The Eagles’ Influence on Falcons Hiring Decisions
The Falcons’ interest in these candidates highlights the Eagles’ recent success in the NFL. This trend reflects an effort by Atlanta to replicate Philadelphia’s winning formula.
New Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski, a native of Philadelphia, may also influence this decision. As the team moves forward, it remains to be seen whether Douglas will secure the position or if Atlanta will choose a different candidate.
If Douglas is appointed as the Falcons’ general manager, it may prompt Howie Roseman to seek a replacement to fill his role within the Eagles’ organization.
