Hyderabad Hosts 750-Year-Old Sufi Basant Tradition in January
Hyderabad is set to host the Sufi Basant Festival, a cherished event celebrating its 750-year-old tradition. Scheduled for January 23, this festival will be held at the Dargah Hazrath Shaik ji Hali R A, located behind Pathergatti. This gathering promises to attract a diverse audience while emphasizing unity through music.
Sufi Basant Festival Details
The Sufi Basant Festival, organized by the Telangana Arts and Cultural Council, aims to immerse attendees in a musical experience. The evening will feature Mehfil-e-Nizami, a qawwali recital that highlights the lyrical compositions by the revered poet Amir Khusrau.
A Poignant History
This tradition originates from a significant episode in the life of Saint Nizamuddin Aulia. After a personal loss, his disciple Amir Khusrau sought to lift his spirits. On Basant Panchami, Khusrau observed joyous groups celebrating spring. They were dressed in yellow and carrying flowers. Inspired, he joined them, ultimately bringing joy to his mentor.
