Red Sox Secure Minor League Deal with Tayron Guerrero
The Boston Red Sox have officially signed reliever Tayron Guerrero to a minor league deal, which includes an invitation to MLB spring training. This signing was initially reported by Andrew Parker from Sox Prospects earlier this month. Guerrero is returning to affiliated baseball after spending the 2025 season playing in Japan.
Tayron Guerrero’s Return to Affiliated Baseball
Guerrero, a 6’8″ right-handed pitcher, signed with the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan last offseason. This marked his second tenure with the team, as he previously played for the Marines in 2022. However, his performance in 2025 was less impressive, resulting in a 6.41 ERA over 19.2 innings in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). Consequently, he spent most of the season with the Marines’ minor league affiliate.
Major League Experience
The 35-year-old Guerrero’s last appearance in Major League Baseball (MLB) was in 2019. Across his career, he has accumulated 106 innings in the majors, concluding with a 5.77 earned run average (ERA). In addition to his MLB stats, Guerrero has recorded an average of seven earned runs per nine innings over 117 career innings in Triple-A.
Guerrero’s Pitching Style and Potential
- Height: 6’8″
- Fastball Velocity: 99 MPH
- Career MLB ERA: 5.77
- Triple-A Earned Runs: 7 per 9 innings
Despite a lack of dominant command, Guerrero’s high velocity has caught the attention of various teams seeking depth in their bullpen. The Red Sox will evaluate him during spring training, where he has the chance to impress the coaching staff. Although he may not secure an Opening Day roster spot, a strong performance could position him favorably for a midseason call-up, particularly with the Triple-A Worcester team.
