In 2024, a remarkable 94% of seniors in this age group lived in households equipped with internet access, up from 85% in 2019. This highlights a significant trend: older adults are not lagging behind younger generations in accessing the web, where 99% of residents aged 25 to 34 have internet connectivity.
Seniors’ Online Activity
Statistics reveal that Luxembourg seniors are becoming more active online. About 57% of seniors use the internet multiple times a day, while 22% log on at least once a day. The primary activities include:
- Communication: 71%
- Information gathering: 61%
- Online banking: 63%
Gender disparities emerge in internet usage among seniors. Men tend to engage more in:
- Email use (82% vs. 60% for women)
- Online banking (70% vs. 57%)
- Information research (67% vs. 55%)
Conversely, women show a preference for direct communication tools, such as:

Despite their growing digital engagement, seniors remain cautious about online shopping. Only 47% of those aged 65 to 74 made at least one online purchase in the last three months. In comparison, younger age groups show much higher engagement, with:

When seniors do shop online, they typically prefer:
- Clothing, shoes, and accessories (20%)

The use of connected devices also shows potential among seniors, with:
- 42% using a smart TV
- 19% possessing a smartwatch
- 16% owning a connected car
