Before joining the 49ers, McDaniel’s career included notable roles in Atlanta, Cleveland, and Washington. In 2016, while in Atlanta, he contributed to a team that ranked second in total offense and led the league in scoring. The Falcons advanced to Super Bowl LIII that season.

Early Career

McDaniel began his NFL coaching career as a scout intern with the Denver Broncos in 2005. He then progressed to roles with the Houston Texans, where he worked alongside Shanahan’s father, Gary Kubiak. His experience also includes coaching running backs in the United Football League.

A native of Colorado, McDaniel has a diverse background. He played as a wide receiver at Yale University, where he earned a degree in history. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Katie, and their daughter, Ayla.
