Heavy Snowfall Causes Delays and Closures on P.E.I.
Heavy snowfall blanketed Prince Edward Island overnight, leading to significant delays and closures across the province on Tuesday.
School Closures
Due to hazardous weather and travel conditions, all English and French schools are closed today. Additionally, the Island Montessori Academy in Stratford and Cornwall has also canceled classes for the day.
College and University Updates
All locations of Holland College are closed, along with the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) campuses in Charlottetown and St. Peter’s Bay. However, the AVC Veterinary Teaching Hospital remains operational for emergency cases.
Health Care Services
Health PEI has reported various delays and closures, which are detailed on their official website. Islanders with scheduled appointments at hospitals or clinics are advised to call in advance and inform staff if they are unable to attend.
Government Office Delays
- All provincial civil service offices will open at 10:30 a.m.
- Charlottetown City Hall and administrative offices will also delay opening till 10:30 a.m.
- All branches of Provincial Credit Union will open at 11 a.m.
Weather Warnings
Environment Canada has issued yellow snowfall warnings for Kings and Queens counties, with a special weather statement applicable to Prince County. Projections indicate that the snow will persist through the morning before diminishing in the afternoon.
Snow Accumulation and Conditions
According to CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin, an additional 5 to 10 centimeters of snow is expected, though the snowfall will be accompanied by blowing snow conditions. Winds are anticipated to decrease gradually during the evening hours.
