Adrianne Curry Criticizes Netflix’s ‘Woke’ Documentary
The legacy of America’s Next Top Model is under scrutiny with the upcoming Netflix documentary series, Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model. The three-part series features insights from former producers and judges, including Tyra Banks, as they reflect on the controversies surrounding the show.
Adrianne Curry’s Criticism
Adrianne Curry, the winner of the show’s inaugural season in 2003, has openly criticized the documentary’s approach. She declined to participate, stating her disapproval of assessing the show through a modern lens.
“I think people psychoanalyzing it over 20 years later with a woke lens is absurd,” Curry expressed on social media. She emphasized her lack of trust towards producers and her decision to avoid public exposure. “The public is cult-like and cruel,” she remarked, explaining her choice to remain distant from the industry.
Concerns Over Manipulation
Curry also articulated her apprehensions regarding potential manipulation of her statements in the documentary. She mentioned, “I have [zero] trust in any producers, no desire to be really public in this day and age … and am hard retired from Hollywood.”
Insight from Former Participants
The trailer for Reality Check highlights various reflections from former participants. Tyra Banks acknowledged mistakes, stating, “I knew I went too far … it was very intense, but you guys were demanding it.”
- Nigel Barker commented, “It was wrong and for some reason no one seemed to see it … we felt betrayed.”
- Photo shoot director Jay Manuel remarked, “I realized Tyra would do anything for the success of her show.”
Throughout its run, America’s Next Top Model faced numerous allegations related to consent and instances of fat shaming, a critical focus of the documentary.
