Deion Sanders Seeks Special Teams Coordinator for Colorado Buffs
Deion Sanders has made significant changes to the coaching staff of the Colorado Buffaloes as the team prepares for the 2026 season. One of the key positions currently open is the special teams coordinator. Sources indicate that Sanders has already engaged several candidates for this role.
Changes in Special Teams Coordination
Michael Pollock, who began as an analyst in 2024 and served as the special teams coordinator for the 2025 season, is leaving this position. Under Pollock’s leadership, Colorado struggled, finishing with a 3-9 record and ranking 109th nationally in net punting.
Pollock joined Sanders at Jackson State in 2021, significantly contributing to the program’s success before heading to Colorado when Sanders took charge in December 2022. His prior experience includes over 20 years in Georgia high school football, where he earned recognition as a coach.
Recent Coaching Changes
- Brendan Marion has been appointed as the new offensive coordinator.
- Pat Shurmur was demoted during the 2025 season, marking the third offensive coordinator change in four years under Sanders.
- Veteran analyst Josh Conklin has left for a role with Virginia Tech.
- Corey Phillips has taken on a general manager role at Memphis.
As the Buffaloes look ahead, they aim to improve their performance following a disappointing finish last year, which included a five-game losing streak. The 2026 season opener is scheduled for September 5 against Georgia Tech, the same team that defeated Colorado in their previous matchup.
Upcoming Schedule
The Colorado Buffaloes’ initial games for the 2026 season include:
- September 5: at Georgia Tech
- September 12: hosting Weber State
- September 19: at Northwestern
- September 26: at Baylor for Big 12 play
- October 3: hosting Texas Tech, the reigning Big 12 Champion
These changes reflect Sanders’s commitment to revitalizing the program as they enter a crucial season in a competitive conference.
