Diputació Approves Protocol for Climate Emergency Response
The Valencia Provincial Council has approved a new internal protocol for responding to climate emergencies during its January plenary session. This protocol aims to define actions for different weather-related alerts declared by competent authorities.
Climate Emergency Response Protocol Overview
- Objective: Establish guidelines for workplace safety during adverse weather events.
- Presenter: Reme Mazzolari, Vice President and Personnel Officer.
- Scope: Measures are categorized based on alert levels: yellow, orange, and red.
Alert Levels and Corresponding Actions
The protocol differentiates actions based on alert levels:
- Yellow Alert: Personnel must remain vigilant and follow updates from authorities.
- Orange Alert: Work centers will remain open. However, attendance may depend on official recommendations, and adjustments to work hours may occur.
- Red Alert: Work centers may close, especially if the alert encompasses the entire province, with exceptions for essential services.
In the case of a red alert, instructions from emergency and civil protection authorities will guide the protocol’s implementation. Employees living in affected areas may be exempt from attending work during such alerts.
Commitment to Worker Safety
Mazzolari emphasized the protocol’s necessity due to the increasing frequency of climate emergencies. The primary focus is ensuring the safety of all provincial employees during such events.
Additional Resolutions Passed at the Plenary
- The council approved a motion to support the Valencia citrus sector, urging the Spanish government to defend protective measures in Brussels against citrus imports from non-EU countries.
- A motion was also passed to preserve and promote ceramic altarpieces as an essential aspect of Valencia’s cultural heritage, allocating necessary funding for these efforts.
Tribute to Victims
Before the start of the plenary, a minute of silence was observed for Alex, a young boy from Sueca, who was tragically murdered recently. Vicent Mompó, President of the Valencia Provincial Council, conveyed the institution’s condolences to the victims’ families and reiterated their commitment to protecting the vulnerable.
