Man Charged with Assault After Serious Injury on Backworth Estate
A man sustained serious injuries on the Backworth estate, prompting a significant police response. The incident occurred in the early hours, leading to an investigation by Northumbria Police.
Incident Overview
On January 28, at approximately 4:40 a.m., emergency services were dispatched to Hotspur North in Backworth. A report indicated that a man in his 50s was found with serious injuries.
The victim received medical attention and was later discharged from the hospital the same day.
Police Investigation
Following the incident, police established two cordons around a grassy area near the intersection of Hotspur North and Briardene Way. A larger section of the grassland was taped off for investigation purposes.

Charges Filed
A suspect has been identified and charged in connection with the assault. Samuel Olvhoj, 37, residing on Wilfred Street in Newcastle, faces serious charges:

Olvhoj appeared before Mid and South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court on February 2. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on March 2.
