Impressive Locations
The picturesque town of Cortina, surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks, has impressed athletes like Korey Dropkin from Massachusetts. He noted that the views are breathtaking from anywhere in town.
Facilities for Athletes
Olympic villages across the Milan Cortina region are thoughtfully designed to accommodate athletes and support staff. Key facilities include:
- Beds for athletes and support staff
- Gyms for workouts
- Laundry facilities
- Medical assistance
- Cafeterias with a variety of food options
In the mountain villages, athletes have shown a preference for cultural favorites. Many are opting for pasta over other dishes, keeping their energy levels high for the competitions ahead.
Experiencing Community
Figure skater Ilia Malinin from Virginia remarked on the camaraderie among athletes from various sports. He enjoyed the sight of team jackets in the cafeteria. Madison Chock, an ice dancer from California, shared her surprise at the athlete lounge, which resembles a greenhouse, providing a calming atmosphere for relaxation.
Snowboarders Enjoy Local Cuisine
Team USA snowboarders are stationed in Livigno, near the Swiss border. The local pizza has become a highlight for many, including Lily Dhawornvej from Colorado, who joked about eating seven slices in one dinner. Her teammate Hahna Norman from California also indulged in a pizza dinner with two-time Olympic champion Anna Gasser.
Food Variety and Dietary Preferences
Jess Perlmutter from New Jersey has not only enjoyed pizza but also praised the gluten-free pasta and gelato options available. She mentioned, “Italy’s like one of the best places for gluten-free food.”
Overall, members of Team USA are relishing their time in Italy as they prepare for the upcoming Winter Olympics while enjoying the local culture and cuisine.
