Train Delays and Cancellations on Bergamo-Milan Line Due to Treviglio West Malfunction

Commuters on the Bergamo-Milan line faced significant disruptions today, January 29, due to train delays and cancellations. The issues stemmed from a malfunction at Treviglio Ovest station, which required intervention from RFI technicians.

Disruptions on Bergamo-Milan Line

Heavy delays were reported in peak hours. Many travelers were left waiting for replacements as Trenord acknowledged the problem through their app. The initial malfunction involved a switch failure, which effectively halted train operations along the Bergamo-Pioltello-Milan route.

Impact on Train Services

Both delays and cancellations were widespread. According to reports, delays reached up to 40 minutes, with some instances exceeding two hours. Specific trains affected included:

  • Train cancellations at 7:02, 7:13, and 8:02 to Milano Centrale.
  • Train arriving from Milan at 8:05 was also canceled.
  • Train at 7:40 did not arrive at Bergamo station.
  • Train departing at 9:02 from Bergamo ended its journey at Verdello-Dalmine.
  • Similar disruptions occurred for trains at 7:05 and 10:05 from Milan towards Bergamo.

Further complicating the situation, unauthorized individuals on the tracks led to additional delays between Stezzano and Verdello. Later, an issue with circulation systems halted the 14:02 train to Milano Centrale at Lambrate.

Political Response

In light of these ongoing issues, regional councilor Davide Casati and provincial Democratic Party secretary Gabriele Giudici announced that an inquiry has been submitted to the assessor, Lucente. They seek clarification on whether the region is contemplating a review of the current financial contract with Trenord.

This proposed review aims to redistribute production goals over multiple years. The goal is to make these objectives more gradual and realistic, thereby allowing for a reduction in payments to the railway company. This would ideally free up additional resources for enhancing local public transport services.
