Borgo Castello Olive Grove Opens in Andora
Andora is set to inaugurate the Borgo Castello Olive Grove on Saturday, February 7, at noon. This initiative is part of an extensive project aimed at environmental, cultural, and productive regeneration in the hillside area adjacent to the historic center.
Borgo Castello Olive Grove: Key Details
The Borgo Castello Olive Grove spans an impressive 23,692 square meters. The site has undergone significant landscape restoration, including the construction of new walkways and the reconstruction of traditional dry stone walls, essential to Ligurian agriculture.
This olive grove, which had been abandoned for decades and overgrown with spontaneous vegetation, will transform into a green space dedicated to teaching the local olive cultivation tradition. It will also serve as part of a future experiential agricultural enterprise, which is currently under development. This venture aims to produce extra virgin olive oil under the Borgo Castello brand.
Community Involvement and Support
- The planting of an additional one hundred olive trees is currently underway.
- Mayor Mauro Demichelis emphasized the importance of these initiatives for the production of extra virgin olive oil.
The Borgo Castello project aligns with the “Remembering the Past to Build the Future” program. This initiative is supported by various entities, including:
- Regione Liguria
- Soprintendenza Liguria
- Anci Liguria
- University of Genoa
- Ministry of Culture via European PNRR Funds
