72nd Quebec Carnival Kicks Off with Excitement

The 72nd edition of the Quebec Carnival has officially commenced, led by the iconic Bonhomme. This year’s festivities will span from February 3 to February 15, featuring numerous activities, mainly tailored for families during the day, transforming into vibrant celebrations in the evening.

Event Overview

Activities are divided across four key locations:

  • Zone Loto-Québec (Palais and Dôme at the National Assembly)
  • Place de l’Érable (George-V Square)
  • Bank Scotia Sculpture Garden (Francophonie Park)
  • Quays of Espace Quatre Cents

On the opening day, the downtown sites will open at 5 PM and remain operational until 11 PM. Other weekdays will see openings at noon and weekends at 10 AM. The Espace Quatre Cents site will be accessible from noon on Friday.

Featured Activities

This year’s carnival offers a diverse range of attractions:

  • Ice climbing on giant bear sculptures
  • A massive ball pit
  • Snow slides
  • Mini-golf
  • Fatbike initiation sessions
  • A family zone with giant winter games

Weekend Highlights

The carnival will officially launch with a Country Storm evening event at 6 PM on Friday. Key weekend activities include:

  • Saturday: Calgary Western Breakfast from 10 AM to 12 PM, Gourmet Tasting tour in Vieux-Port, and a Night Parade starting at 5:30 PM featuring 300 artists.
  • Sunday: Country dance from 12 PM to 6 PM, snow bath at the Gougoune site at 2 PM, and canoe race at the quays commencing at 12:30 PM.

Throughout the carnival, visitors can also explore the Palace of Bonhomme with photo opportunities with the beloved character at scheduled times. Additionally, around 40 ice sculptures will be on display, and visitors will have the chance to watch live ice carving demonstrations.

Transportation and Access

Free shuttle services will operate from Francophonie Park to Espace Quatre Cents for easier access to activities. The traditional effigy, required for most activities, is available for $39 plus taxes.
