TOTY Lundy Strengthens Trust Every Day

Kimberly “Paige” Lundy, a dedicated behavior self-contained teacher at Hollis Hand Elementary School, has recently earned the title of Teacher of the Year. This recognition has been described by Lundy as a humbling experience. She expressed gratitude for being part of a school community filled with dedicated educators who inspire her.

Community and Support

Lundy emphasized the importance of the supportive environment at Hollis Hand Elementary. She noted that one of her paraprofessionals, Akail Deloach, was also honored as Support Staff of the Year, making the recognition even more special for their classroom.

Experience in Education

With 23 years of experience in education, all within the Troup County School System, Lundy has spent the last nine years at Hollis Hand Elementary. Her role involves helping students with emotional and behavioral disorders develop trust, build relationships, and adopt coping strategies.

Building Trust in the Classroom

According to Lundy, the most rewarding aspect of her job is witnessing students who initially struggle with trust begin to open up. She highlighted the significance of these breakthroughs, where students start believing in themselves and learning to manage their emotions effectively.

Challenges in Teaching

Despite the rewards, the role comes with challenges. Lundy pointed out the difficulty of addressing each student’s unique academic and emotional needs while maintaining classroom behavior. She acknowledged that what works for one student may not be effective for another, requiring patience and adaptability.

Collaboration and Improvement

  • Lundy credits much of her success to the collaboration with her paraprofessionals.
  • They regularly discuss strategies to meet the diverse needs of their students.

Inspirational Roots

Lundy’s motivation to become an educator stemmed from her mother, Ruth Perdue, who also taught in the Troup County School System. Lundy admired her mother’s dedication and the positive impact she had on her students’ lives.

This legacy of care and commitment continues to inspire Lundy as she fulfills her passion for teaching and strengthening trust every day in her classroom.
