Canadian Snowboarder Mark McMorris Confident of Slopestyle Return Post Head Injury

Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris is expressing optimism about his participation in the upcoming slopestyle event at the Winter Olympics. This comes after he suffered a head injury during a training crash that caused him to withdraw from the men’s big air event in Italy.

Recovery Update

McMorris, 32, is feeling more confident with each passing day. He shared on Instagram that he is “getting better day by day, hour by hour.”

He stated, “There is a really good chance I will get [medically] cleared to compete in slopestyle, and that’s all I need to keep pushing my hardest.”

Previous Achievements

The Regina native has an impressive track record in Olympic slopestyle. He has won three bronze medals in this event:

  • 2014 – Sochi, Russia
  • 2018 – Pyeongchang, South Korea
  • 2022 – Beijing

Incident Details

The accident was described as a “freak accident” by Brendan Matthews, vice-president of Canada Snowboard. McMorris had successfully landed the trick he was attempting when he caught loose snow with his heel edge, resulting in a hard fall.

Community Support

After the incident, McMorris was taken to the hospital but was released shortly thereafter. He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from Canadians, stating that he appreciates the messages, even though he hasn’t been on his phone much.
