Iowa State Ends Gymnastics Season Early

The Iowa State University Athletics Department has ended the gymnastics season prematurely. Officials made this announcement citing a lack of available student-athletes for safe competition.

Decision to Cancel Gymnastics Season

Shamaree Brown, the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student Services, explained the decision. She stated that a thorough assessment revealed insufficient athletes available to compete safely. The priority, she noted, is the health and safety of the student-athletes.

Season Overview

The Cyclones finished the season with a record of 2-8. The cancellation affects several scheduled meets:

  • Western Michigan – February 13
  • Arizona State – February 22
  • Arizona – February 27
  • BYU – March 6
  • Iowa – March 13
  • Big 12 Gymnastics Championships – March 21

Ticket Refunds for Fans

Fans holding tickets for the remaining home meets will receive information regarding the refund process later this week. The Athletics Ticket Office at ISU will provide updates.

The decision reflects a commitment to maintaining the well-being of student-athletes amid ongoing challenges. The Iowa State gymnastics program looks forward to returning to competition in the future.
