Kirsty Muir Prepares for Big Air Competition

After reflecting on her recent performance, Muir acknowledged the need to reset her mindset. “I don’t want to dwell on it too much,” she remarked, indicating her readiness to prepare for different challenges ahead.

Background and Past Performance

Muir, hailing from Scotland, made her Olympic debut at the Beijing 2022 Games. At just 17 years old, she finished fifth in the big air category and eighth in slopestyle. Following her initial Olympic experience, she achieved three podium finishes in World Cup competitions.

Injury and Recovery

However, Muir faced significant adversity when an MRI scan in December 2023 revealed a fully torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). This injury led to surgery in early 2024, alongside a procedure to address a persistent shoulder issue. Remarkably, after 11 months of rehabilitation, she returned to competitive snowboarding.

Recent Achievements

Her comeback was triumphant, with her first World Cup gold medal secured in Tignes in March 2025. She continued her success this season, earning additional golds in slopestyle and silver in big air at the X Games, an invitation-only event leading up to the Olympics.

Upcoming Competitions

Muir is set to support her teammate, Mia Brookes, as she competes in the snowboard big air final. Brookes is a prominent figure in the sport, having won multiple titles, including a world championship and two X Games gold medals. Brookes qualified for the final in third place.

Other Events to Watch

  • Curlers Bruce Mouat and Jen Dodds are also competing, aiming for a spot in the gold medal mixed doubles final.
  • Their semi-final match against Sweden is scheduled for 17:05 GMT in Milan.

Kirsty Muir’s journey in this Olympics showcases her resilience and determination as she aims for success in upcoming competitions. With her recent achievements and competitive spirit, she remains a key figure for Team GB’s aspirations at the 2026 Games.
