New Hotel Construction Begins at Former Tournament Inn Site in East Kamloops

Development is set to begin for a new hotel at the former Tournament Inn site in East Kamloops. Property owner Roger Dhesa announced plans for the construction of a Comfort Inn and Suites, targeting the growing market for hotel accommodations in the area.

New Hotel Construction Details

Located at 1893 East Trans Canada Hwy, the first hotel will feature:

  • 72 guest rooms
  • A swimming pool and hot tub
  • A 200-space conference and banquet center

This hotel is expected to be the flagship of the development. Construction is scheduled to commence in the spring and will take approximately 18 to 20 months to complete.

Future Development Plans

The developers also plan a second hotel on the site, which is part of a broader project estimated to cost between $13 and $14 million. This second hotel will include a restaurant, which Dhesa hopes will attract popular chains such as Boston Pizza or Ricky’s.

Initially, a commercial strip was considered, but plans have shifted to integrate the restaurant within the second hotel structure. Dhesa indicated that this second hotel would be designed for extended stays, providing larger rooms equipped with kitchenettes for families or guests planning longer visits.

Market Insights

Dhesa emphasized the significance of this development, noting that East Kamloops is rapidly expanding. The area lacks hotel services and banquet venues despite the increase in residential units. The prime location near the highway positions the new hotels to cater to both local and traveling guests.

With no new commercial accommodations in this part of town, the Comfort Inn and Suites will fill a crucial gap in the market, providing necessary amenities to the growing community of East Kamloops.
