Following negotiations that spanned over two weeks, the ICC decided to expel Bangladesh from the tournament due to their unwillingness to play in India. On January 24, Scotland was announced as their replacement.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) publicly supported Bangladesh, criticizing the ICC’s decision as an example of “double standards.” PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that they would consult with the government regarding the team’s status for the World Cup.
