MLB to Stream Local Games for Angels, Dodgers, Padres, and More Teams

Major League Baseball (MLB) is expanding its streaming capabilities, allowing fans to watch in-market games for 20 different teams. This includes popular franchises like the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, San Francisco Giants, and San Diego Padres. This initiative marks a significant shift in how fans access baseball games, adapting to current trends in the television industry.

MLB’s New Streaming Options for Fans

The Los Angeles Angels recently announced a partnership with MLB to provide their games via Angels.TV. This streaming service will be accessible for $99.99 per season or $19.99 per month through the MLB app. Angels President John Carpino expressed enthusiasm about making games more available, noting, “Our priority is making it as easy as possible for fans to watch Angels Baseball.”

Teams Included in the Streaming Service

  • Los Angeles Angels
  • Los Angeles Dodgers
  • San Francisco Giants
  • San Diego Padres
  • Arizona Diamondbacks
  • Baltimore Orioles
  • Cincinnati Reds
  • Cleveland Guardians
  • Colorado Rockies
  • Kansas City Royals
  • Miami Marlins
  • Milwaukee Brewers
  • Minnesota Twins
  • New York Mets
  • Philadelphia Phillies
  • St. Louis Cardinals
  • Seattle Mariners
  • Tampa Bay Rays
  • Washington Nationals

The MLB’s streaming initiative aims to enhance fan engagement in response to challenges faced by traditional regional sports networks, which have seen declining viewership and increased bankruptcy filings. Alongside this, MLB is also taking over the television production for 14 teams, including the Padres and Diamondbacks.

ESPN’s Role in MLB Streaming

In a related development, ESPN has announced it will become the new streaming home for MLB.TV. This partnership allows fans to access out-of-market live games through the ESPN App and ESPN.com. Rosalyn Durant, ESPN’s executive vice president of programming and acquisitions, stated that this move reinforces ESPN’s position as a central hub for MLB content.

The MLB’s efforts reflect a proactive approach to changing media consumption patterns and offer fans various options to stay connected with their favorite teams. As fan preferences shift, MLB is committed to ensuring that access to games is easier than ever.
