Coronation Street Star Opens Up About Challenging Health Battle

Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor has shared her personal struggle with breast cancer, revealing how it transformed her life. She recently marked four decades on the beloved ITV soap. Dynevor appeared on the talk show Loose Women, where she discussed her diagnosis and recovery while offering support to her co-star, Beverley Callard, who is currently facing a similar battle.

Sally Dynevor’s Health Journey

Diving into her health challenges, Dynevor recounted her diagnosis in 2009, which led to a lumpectomy followed by six months of chemotherapy. Fortunately, she has made a full recovery. As she shared her experiences, her on-screen character, Sally Metcalfe, underwent a parallel storyline featuring breast cancer, making her real-life journey even more poignant.

Impact on Her Career

During the February 11 episode of Loose Women, Dynevor reflected on the difficulties she faced while balancing her health and career. She mentioned an emotionally challenging scene where she had to tell her on-screen co-star, Carla Connor, about her character’s cancer diagnosis. “That was very, very difficult because I knew I was leaving at that point,” she stated.

Raising Awareness

  • Dynevor emphasized the importance of early detection in women’s health.
  • She believes her character’s storyline motivated her to get screened at age 46.
  • More information about breast cancer is now available, helping to increase awareness.

Reflecting on her return to Coronation Street after treatment, Dynevor expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “Once you have something taken away from you, you think that’s it. To get it back is just a wow moment,” she remarked, highlighting the value of her acting career.

Support for Co-stars

As her co-star Beverley Callard faces her own health challenges, Dynevor offered hope. “Hopefully for Bev, she’s caught this early and will be back at work,” she said, acknowledging the struggles of working mothers who are primary breadwinners.

Coronation Street continues to air Monday to Friday at 8:30 PM on ITV1 and ITVX, while Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30 PM on ITV1 and ITVX.
