In the recent game against Finland, Tatar played 16 minutes and 33 seconds, showcasing his skills on Slovakia’s top line with teammates Juraj Slafkovsky and Adam Ruzicka. Over the current season, Tatar has accumulated 30 points, including seven goals and 23 assists, in 36 games for Zug. This performance is notable as Zug competes in the National League, Switzerland’s premier hockey league.
A Seasoned NHL Veteran
The 35-year-old Tatar brings extensive experience, having spent 14 seasons in the NHL from 2010 to 2025. Throughout his career, he has played for several teams, including the Detroit Red Wings and the Montreal Canadiens. Tatar has achieved at least 20 goals in seven separate seasons and recorded 496 points, comprising 227 goals and 269 assists over 927 NHL games. In playoff appearances, he adds another 13 points in 56 games.
Transition to European Hockey
Last season, Tatar registered 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) while averaging 11 minutes and 6 seconds of ice time over 74 games for the New Jersey Devils. Faced with uncertainty regarding his future in the NHL, Tatar opted to return to Europe, citing family concerns as a major factor in his decision. He stated, “It was a family decision. We were expecting a baby, and I wanted to enjoy hockey more.”

With the Olympics approaching, Tatar anticipates playing significant minutes for the Slovakian national team. He reflects on his decision to leave the NHL, feeling that it was best for his family. “Do I maybe look back and say I should have stayed? Maybe. At the time, for the family, it would be an easier decision,” Tatar remarked.
