Anthony Kim Triumphs at LIV Adelaide, Secures First Golf Title in 16 Years
Anthony Kim has made a spectacular comeback in the world of golf by winning at LIV Golf Adelaide. This victory marks his first title in approximately 16 years, as he secured it with an impressive final round of 9-under 63, finishing three shots ahead.
Anthony Kim’s Remarkable Journey
The 40-year-old American golfer had stepped away from professional play for 12 years due to struggles with drug and alcohol issues. Recently, he had to participate in a qualifying tournament to earn his place on the LIV Tour for the current season. Reflecting on his achievement, Kim expressed gratitude, stating, “For it to actually happen is pretty insane.”
Performance Highlights
Competing in warm weather at The Grange Golf Club, Kim delighted a large crowd. He showcased his skills with four consecutive birdies on holes 12 through 15. The impressive putts measured 17, 11, 14, and 17 feet respectively. On the par-4 17th, Kim sank a 15-footer, which solidified his three-stroke lead heading into the final hole.
- Kims’s final score: 23 under par
- Previous LIV Tour best finish: Tied for 25th
- Recorded birdies on holes 12-15
- Final round score: 9-under 63
- Previous PGA Tour victory: 2010 Houston Open
As he approached the 18th fairway, Kim enjoyed the enthusiastic support of the spectators. Although he narrowly missed a 20-foot birdie that would have set a new course record, he calmly tapped in for par, celebrating his long-awaited success.
The Competitive Field
Kim’s finishing score placed him ahead of notable golfers. Jon Rahm, who tied for the third-round lead, ended the tournament in second place after scoring 71. Bryson DeChambeau, with a round of 74, tied for third alongside Tyrell Hatton and Peter Uihlein.
In team competitions, Kim’s 4Aces squad took third while Rahm’s team, Legion XIII, was positioned in second place. The Ripper team, comprising Australian players Cam Smith, Lucas Herbert, Marc Leishman, and Elvis Smylie, won for the second consecutive week.
Looking Ahead
Previously, Kim reached a peak ranking of No. 6 in the world in 2008, the same year he was part of the victorious US Ryder Cup team. In the previous year, he played six tournaments on the Asian Tour, making four cuts and achieving a tie for fifth place at the Saudi International.
Kim’s triumph in LIV Golf Adelaide is a testament to his resilience and dedication, inspiring those who have faced challenges. As he eloquently put it, “Nobody else has to believe in me but me. And, for anybody that’s struggling, you can get through anything.”
