Dense Fog Halts Rural Bus Routes Tuesday Morning
Dense fog significantly impacted rural bus routes in Ontario on Tuesday morning. The conditions forced cancellations of numerous routes as visibility dropped to dangerously low levels. In some areas, visibility was reported to be less than 200 meters.
Weather Conditions in Southern Ontario
The fog blanket extended over much of southern Ontario, according to Mark Schuster, an operational meteorologist with Environment Canada. He noted that the region is experiencing a stagnant weather pattern characterized by very light winds and mild temperatures mixed with patches of snow, which contribute to the formation of fog due to increased low-level moisture.
School Bus Cancellations
As a result of the dense fog, all school transport services in Middlesex, Oxford, and Elgin counties were cancelled for the morning. The zones affected included the “red zone,” located south of Highway 401, as reported by mybigyellowbus.ca. While morning routes were cancelled, it was noted that buses scheduled for the afternoon would continue as planned.
Forecast and Future Conditions
Weather forecasts indicate that the fog is expected to lift several hours after sunrise. However, residents should prepare for the next weather system anticipated to move in overnight. Predictions suggest up to 25 millimeters of rain and a possibility of freezing rain on Wednesday. This leads to concerns about slippery conditions, particularly in the London area.
Temperature Outlook
- Current temperatures are close to seasonal averages.
- Expected highs of 5°C on Thursday.
- Temperatures could dip to -2°C by the following Monday.
With these changing conditions, it is essential for pedestrians and drivers to remain cautious on untreated roads as safety remains a priority amid this foggy weather.
