Ancona Hosts Italian Paralympic Championships with Anthropos Expertise

In Ancona, the 21st Italian Paralympic Indoor Athletics Championships will take place this weekend at the PalaCasali and Italico Conti sports field. The event is organized by Anthropos Civitanova under the auspices of the Italian Federation of Paralympic and Experimental Sports (FISPES), and has the support of the Marche Region and the Municipality of Ancona.

Participants and Program

Beginning Thursday, teams and athletes will arrive, followed by indoor warming on Friday morning and afternoon competitions. Saturday will feature full-day events, combining both indoor and outdoor competitions.

Among the expected participants is Assunta Legnante, a seven-time world champion and celebrated Paralympic athlete. She expressed her hopes for a strong audience turnout at PalaCasali. Other notable athletes include:

  • Oney Tapia, gold medalist in discus throw
  • Ambra Sabatini, Paralympic gold medalist in the 100 meters and long jump competitor
  • Marco Cicchetti, double world champion in the 200 meters and long jump
  • Ndiaga Dieng, 800-meter gold medalist at the world championships

Regional Impact

This championship is expected to draw hundreds of athletes, coaches, and families, delivering significant economic benefits to the region. The event also serves as a platform for fostering connections among participating clubs and families, according to Regional Social Policies Assessor Paolo Calcinaro.

Nelio Piermattei, president of Anthropos, noted that this year’s championship marks the organization’s 14th edition. The growth of the event reflects an increasing participation of athletes from across Italy, leading to new national and even European records in the sport.
