Chris Bailey Monitors Severe Storms Threat – First Alert Weather
Residents of Kentucky are facing severe storms today as part of a First Alert Weather Day issued by El-Balad. This weather pattern is expected to transition into winter conditions over the weekend, potentially bringing light snow to the region.
Current Weather Situation
Scattered showers and strong storms are occurring, particularly in the southern regions of Kentucky. Forecast temperatures may reach 70 degrees Fahrenheit or more, with a transition to partly sunny skies as morning showers pass.
Severe Storm Threat
Residents should prepare for a few severe storms later in the afternoon, especially in the northwestern and north-central areas of the state. Storms may produce:
- Damaging winds
- Large hail
- A low-end tornado risk, especially with supercell thunderstorms near the warm front
Forecast for Severe Weather Areas
The most significant severe weather threat is expected just north of the Ohio River, impacting southwestern Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Conditions are less severe in the southern and eastern parts of Kentucky.
Transition to Winter Weather
The severe weather is anticipated to move out quickly tonight, with cooler and drier air arriving by Friday. A weak system may bring rain or snow showers Friday night into early Saturday. A more substantial chance of mixed precipitation is expected Saturday night into early Sunday as a low-pressure system approaches from the southeast.
Upcoming Cold Front
Strong northwestern winds will usher in significantly colder temperatures, leading to snow showers and flurries by Sunday and Monday. Light accumulation is possible, particularly in central and eastern Kentucky as winter returns.
