Charles Leclerc Tops Bahrain Test Over Norris and Verstappen

Charles Leclerc concluded the 2026 pre-season testing at Bahrain by topping the timesheets, surpassing competitors Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. Friday’s final session provided an opportunity for teams to finalize their preparations ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, scheduled from March 6 to 8.

Final Day Highlights

The Bahrain session resumed at 1500 local time, with teams eager to collect valuable mileage. Notably, Aston Martin faced challenges with a “very limited” run plan due to battery issues from Thursday. Consequently, driver Lance Stroll managed only six non-timed laps, ending early due to the team’s confirmed program completion.

Meanwhile, McLaren’s Norris was delayed, as adjustments were made to their car after Oscar Piastri drove in the morning session. Norris eventually joined the track with two hours remaining.

Leclerc Leads the Field

Leclerc demonstrated exceptional performance in the SF-26, achieving a stunning time of 1m 31.992s. This time not only secured his top position but was also the fastest of the entire testing session. Throughout the afternoon, he progressed further, initially clocking 1m 33.629s and later improving to 1m 32.655s.

Competitive Times

Norris finished the day in second place, trailing Leclerc by 0.879 seconds. Verstappen secured third for Red Bull, followed closely by George Russell from Mercedes, who maximized his team’s mileage post a mechanical issue that halted teammate Kimi Antonelli earlier in the session.
