Steeves Maximizes Extra Training Sessions in Practice Report
As the Boston Bruins prepare for the next segment of their season, Alex Steeves stands out after maximizing additional training sessions during the Olympic break. The 26-year-old forward has made significant strides since his recall from the Providence Bruins in November.
A Key Season for Alex Steeves
Before this year, Steeves had a limited NHL experience, with only seven games played in a previous season. However, he has now participated in 38 games for the Bruins. His performance has warranted a two-year contract extension, granted in January, signifying the team’s confidence in his abilities.
Transitioning into the NHL
The demands of the NHL require substantial adaptation. Steeves acknowledged the toll the rigorous schedule can take. “The schedule has been a bear, and it’s going to be a bear when we pick back up,” he noted. This break has afforded him the opportunity to reset both physically and mentally.
Importance of Rest and Recovery
Steeves emphasized the benefits of taking a step back. “It was good to let the body and mind rest a bit,” he explained. The NHL rookie believes this pause will help him and his teammates reinvigorate themselves as they head into a crucial phase of the season.
Supportive Rookie Class
Steeves is one of three rookies on the Bruins roster, alongside Fraser Minten and Jonathan Aspirot. Each has stepped up in their roles, contributing to the team’s success. The break is anticipated to allow them to return stronger and more focused.
Coach’s Encouragement
Head coach Marco Sturm is optimistic about his young players following the break. He described it as a beneficial regrouping period, akin to a summer break. “Now they know exactly what to expect,” Sturm stated. He plans to maintain a training routine similar to that of training camp to enhance their performance.
Focus on Consistency
Consistency remains a challenge for young players in the NHL. “That’s the biggest challenge you have as a young kid,” said Sturm, applauding the players for their hard work thus far. As the Bruins gear up for the final stretch of the season, the hope is that these training sessions will pave the way for a successful conclusion.
