Sky TV Confirms Major Shake-Up: Two Popular Channels Disappear This Week

Sky TV is making significant changes to its channel lineup, impacting all subscribers. This transformation includes the return of Sky One, while two other channels will be discontinued. Changes will be effective starting February 24.

Return of Sky One

After a five-year hiatus, Sky One is set to make its comeback on channel 106. The channel promises a diverse range of programming, combining comedy and entertainment. New shows like The Dyers’ Caravan Park and Gemma Collins: Four Weddings and a Baby are among the highlights. Additionally, popular titles such as Rob & Romesh Vs., The Paper, and Ted will also return. The highly-anticipated Saturday Night Live UK is scheduled to debut later this year on Sky One.

Channel Changes and Objectives

While the revival of Sky One is welcomed, it comes at the expense of Sky Showcase and Sky Max, both of which will cease operations this week. Sky aims to consolidate its offerings, making it simpler for viewers to access their favorite shows. “Our goal is to make it easier than ever for Sky TV customers to discover and enjoy the shows they love,” stated Carli Kerr, Managing Director of Sky TV & NOW.

New Subscription Plans

In addition to the channel changes, Sky is introducing an attractive subscription plan. For £24 per month, subscribers can access several leading streaming services. This new package includes:

  • Netflix Standard with Ads
  • Disney+ Standard with Ads (available from March)
  • HBO Max Basic with Ads (launching March 26)
  • Hayu (top shows available from March, full access from July)
  • Over 130 channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, and Sky Crime

Moreover, Sky Cinema users will see the addition of a dedicated Disney movie channel within their TV guide. This feature allows viewers to enjoy popular films without needing to access the Disney+ app.

Summary of Changes

The upcoming changes to Sky TV include:

  • Launch of Sky One on February 24
  • Closure of Sky Showcase and Sky Max
  • New subscription plan at £24 per month
  • Access to Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, and Hayu

These updates mark a significant shift for Sky TV, offering viewers new opportunities to engage with content and enhancing their viewing experience.
